Key Impact
“Institutionalized annual planning, monthly review, and continuous improvement culture.”

Context & Background
A growing manufacturing organization needed to strengthen the management disciplines and organizational capabilities required to support its future growth.
Rather than treating planning, budgeting, operational improvement and employee participation as isolated initiatives, a Future Readiness Programme was undertaken to establish a more systematic approach to managing performance and improvement.
Key Challenges
1Growth required stronger linkage between business plans, budgets, operating priorities and performance review. Improvement also needed to move beyond management-led initiatives and become part of the way employees worked.
2The central challenge was to make the organization increasingly capable of planning, reviewing, improving and preparing itself for the next stage of growth.
Work Executed
A structured annual planning and budgeting exercise was undertaken to translate business priorities into operating and financial plans, creating stronger alignment between business objectives, operating priorities, budgets and performance expectations.
A monthly performance review mechanism was established so actual performance could be examined against planned outcomes, performance gaps identified, corrective actions defined and ownership established.
A culture of continuous improvement was initiated across the organization. Employees were encouraged to identify improvement opportunities, generate ideas and participate in their execution, strengthening ownership of process efficiency, waste reduction and quality.
Value Delivered
Annual planning and budgeting institutionalized. Monthly performance and improvement review mechanism established. Employees generated and executed continuous-improvement ideas. Process efficiency improved with significant waste reduction and stronger quality focus. Improvement learnings carried forward into a new facility with approximately 5× capacity.
